All your NSW Registration Checks in one stop

Generally light vehicles over 5 years old require a safety check (pink slip) before you can renew your registration. This applies to caravans with an aggregate trailer mass of 4.5 tonnes or less (including those fitted with breakaway brakes). Your registraiton renewal paperwork will generally tell you if an inspection is needed. A safety check is valid for six months

Vehicles not previously registered in NSW must have a Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Scheme (AUVIS) inspection (previously called a blue slip) before they can be registered. The inspection verifies the safety of an unregistered vehicle, while making sure it meets design and identity standards.
